Exploring the Role of Digital Fatigue on E-Commerce Behaviour

Background

Digital fatigue refers to the mental exhaustion caused by prolonged exposure to digital platforms, overwhelming information, and constant notifications. While extensively studied in the context of workplace productivity and mental health, its effects on consumer behaviour, particularly in e-commerce, remain underexplored. This project aims to investigate how digital fatigue influences consumer decision-making, shopping habits, and purchase completion rates. It also explores how businesses can adapt their platforms to reduce fatigue and enhance the shopping experience.

Learning Outcome (LO)

  • LO #1: Understand the concept of digital fatigue and its psychological impact on consumer behaviour.
  • LO #2: Analyse the relationship between digital fatigue and key e-commerce metrics, such as purchase intent, cart abandonment, and session duration.
  • LO #3: Develop actionable strategies for e-commerce platforms to mitigate digital fatigue and improve customer satisfaction.
