Chandrayaan-2 to Chandrayaan-3: Key Lessons, Advances, and Recommendations for Lunar Exploration

Background

The Chandraayan 2 mission failed because of several reasons like higher thrust from engines, software limitations and smaller landing site. The issues were addresses in Chandrayan 3 mission, and the rover was able to successfully land on the lunar surface. However, the rover got disconnected after landing so that exploration could not be possible. For the upgraded project on lunar landing, scientists need to take into account the power constraints, the environmental conditions, and radio frequency interference to maintain a steady communication with the rover.

Learning Outcome (LO)

  • LO #1: Learning the working of Chandraayan mission in challenging environmental conditions.
  • LO #2: Learning the environmental conditions surrounding the Chandraayan 2 mission.
  • LO #3: Leaning the tactical and methodical improvements needed to address the challenges.
