Endocrine studies using miniature chip devices

Background

On-chip systems have huge potential to mimic organ-specific features and functions. Bioengineering of female reproductive tract has enabled studies focusing on endocrine function. Comparison of static and non-static systems gives us an insight on developmental dynamics and changes in the endocrine parameters in females. Such models have various other research applications and can be used for drug testing and toxicity assay evaluation.

Learning Outcome (LO)

  • LO #1: Review of existing static and non-static systems to mimic female reproductive tract to study endocrine function.
  • LO #2: Specific applications of in vitro endocrine systems like drug screening and toxicity studies will be elaborately discussed.
