Magnetism in Medical Imaging: Understanding MRI Technology
inPhysics
Background
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a crucial tool in modern medicine, allowing doctors to see inside the human body without surgery. This project will introduce students to the basic principles of MRI technology, emphasizing the role of magnetism and electromagnetic fields. Students will compare MRI with other imaging techniques, such as Computed Tomography (CT) and Positron Emission Tomography (PET) scans. The project will also touch on how these technologies are used in healthcare and their significance in improving patient outcomes.
Learning Outcome (LO)
- LO#1: Understand the basic principles of magnetism and how they apply to MRI technology.
- LO#2: Compare MRI with other imaging techniques, specifically CT and PET scans, focusing on their differences and similarities.
