Quiet Zones: AI and Sound Sensors for Noise-Free Workspaces
Background
This project allows students to delve into artificial intelligence (AI), sound sensor technology, and data analytics by addressing the real-world challenge of noise management in workplaces. The objective is to develop an AI system that monitors real-time noise levels, identifies patterns of disruption, and suggests practical changes (such as layout adjustments or soundproofing solutions) to improve workplace wellness and productivity.
Learning Outcome (LO)
- LO #1: Basics of AI in Environmental Monitoring
Acquire foundational knowledge on the role of AI in monitoring environmental conditions, with a specific focus on noise management within indoor workspaces. - LO #2: Sound Sensor Technology and Data Interpretation
Learn the principles behind sound sensors, the various types used in commercial settings, and strategies for sensor placement and data collection relevant to noise monitoring. - LO #3: Acoustic Engineering and Practical Noise Mitigation
Explore different materials and design solutions for effective noise reduction and develop skills in data-driven decision-making for workspace layout and acoustic optimization.
