The Transition to Cloud Gaming: Motivations, Barriers, and Usage Outcomes

Background

Cloud gaming services (e.g. Xbox Cloud Gaming) allows users to play high-end games without expensive hardware. Despite the potential to democratize gaming, adoption rates remain uneven due to factors like internet reliability, latency, cost, and user habits. This project assesses how perceived performance, convenience, and social network effects influence the shift to cloud-based gaming, and how this transition may reshape user engagement patterns.

Learning Outcome (LO)

  • LO #1: Learn about various theories of technology adoption and innovation diffusion.
  • LO #2: Conduct surveys and usage-data analysis to measure perceived ease-of-use, enjoyment, and usage frequency etc.
  • LO #3: Use statistical methods like regression and factor analysis to understand the impact of various factors.
