Coral Health Sentinel: Assessing Coral Reefs via Remote Sensing

Background

“Coral Health Sentinel” invites students to assess the health of coral reefs using remote sensing techniques. This project merges marine biology with environmental technology to explore the impacts of climate change on coral ecosystems. Students will analyze satellite imagery to monitor coral health, providing insights into the effects of environmental stressors on these vital marine habitats.

Learning Outcome (LO)

  • LO #1: Gain a comprehensive understanding of coral reefs and their importance to marine ecosystems. Learn about the threats they face and the role of conservation.
  • LO #2: Develop skills in using remote sensing technologies to monitor and analyze environmental changes. Understand how satellite data can be applied in ecological research.
